"Making a list of short-term and long-term goals is a great way to get started on your transformation journey."

There are two kinds of people in this world – those who are productive and those who struggle to get anything done. If you find yourself in the latter group, 2022 should be a year of change in order to attain your goals and the lifestyle you deeply desire. Whilst transforming your life isn’t instant, a small change of direction will lead you to a well planned destination.

Let’s have a look at the positive changes you make in your life now to kickstart 2022 on the right path.

1. Make a list of short-term and long-term goals

Making a list of short-term and long-term goals is a great way to get started on your transformation journey. Whether it’s on a notepad or on your phone – keeping a record of what you’ve done will help to keep you on track of all your activities. By measuring and ticking off completed goals as the year goes along, you will be setting yourself up for a productive and fulfilling year.

2. Purpose

Self-evaluation and introspection is of great importance this year. Knowing thyself and your purpose is the first step towards real success. Whilst setting goals is a good way to kick start the year, knowing why you’re doing it is of greater significance. It’s time to discover who you were meant to be!

3. Health and fitness

Getting into shape after a festive season of indulging can be a daunting task, but this year finally get focused and get the body you desire. Focus on finding a sport or exercise class you really enjoy as you’re much more likely to stick to it. Investing in some new sports kit so you’re feeling confident will help motivate you. Hit the gym and eat healthier potions to enhance your fitness journey.

4. Upgrade your peer group

You may not be satisfied with where you’re right now in your life and you may not know the reason why. One of the reasons can be found in the people you choose to associate with on a daily basis. The environment we live in and the people we choose to surround ourselves with will shape our character, our views on different subjects, and our attitude towards life. They influence our quality of thinking, the choices we make and the beliefs we have.

In 2022, make it a point to be more selective of your networks and associations. Upgrade your peer group and spend more time with people that challenge you to grow in all aspects of your life.

5. Switch up your look

In 2022 revamp your look and add some excitement back into your wardrobe. With a new year on the horizon, what better time to give your wardrobe a refresh?

6. Get enough sleep

Make 2022 the year to catch up on quality sleep. Benefits of improving your sleep quality can include more productivity, more energy, less snacking and a better mood. With sleep monitoring apps and monitors on activity watches, this is an easy one to keep track of.

7. Travel and explore

When it comes to travel resolutions, the destination dreams or type of trip, like a safari or flying to Bora Bora, usually comes pretty easy. But then the reality sets in as you begin to research the travel options and expenses you are going to incur. Despite all these discouraging facts, it’s important to remember that vacation days are typically part of one’s rejuvenation process but the onus is on you to take it. Map out your vacation early this year – travel to different parts of the world, explore other cultures, learn and embrace all those wonderful experiences.

8. Set financial goals

Regardless of whether you are living paycheck to paycheck or have plenty of money left that you funnel into savings, setting a budget is still essential. Setting a budget allows you to exercise discipline when it comes to how much of your money is going to necessities, how much is going to recreational expenses, and how much is going to savings and investments. By setting a budget – and sticking to it – you’ll be able to better control how you are able to reach your other financial goals.

Once you’ve set a budget, it’s time to set a savings goal for this year. Obviously your savings goal should be attainable, but it should also be as large as you can manage. Remember, the more you save now, the more that money will multiply or compound as time goes on. The only financial goal more important than saving and investing is paying off bad debts. High interest, bad debts such as credit card debts and personal loans act exactly the opposite of good investments, decreasing your worth at a compounding rate, rather than growing it. Paying off debts such as these should be your first priority, and this year is as good a time as any to become debt-free.

9. Give yourself time to change

Transformation is a full-time job and can feel like a continuous uphill battle at times. When you experience temporary setbacks (and you will), don’t spend unnecessary energy dwelling on them. Beating yourself up for your perceived failures will not help you succeed. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on the proverbial horse.

10. Be consistent

Putting together good ideas is tough but following through on those actions with consistency is a much greater task. Beginnings and endings are way more exciting than the monotony that comes with the everyday routine. Luckily, the reward that comes with even small improvements can be powerful as well. It’s important to ease yourself into new endeavours. Whether you go hard or take smaller steps in the beginning, you will see improvement and progress early on.
